Motorola

It is time to get a new cell phone. Well, not new – but very gently used. From my computer junk box ![]()
The old one is like 4 years old and still works fine, I just feel like I need a change. I bought this Motorola SLVR around 5 years ago, but never got around to use it. It is still in a very good condition, there is a little ding on the battery cover, but the battery holds charge like it had never been used before. I installed some new custom firmware on it so now it looks and feels really nice. The only problem is reception is not great. It might have something to do with the small size, but I’m gonna use it for now. It has blue-tooth built-in, so I could use my blue-tooth headset with it. There is no Internet access and I disabled my text messaging so it’s for phone calls only.
My goal is to drop the current cell phone contract and to get one of those smart-phones where you could install Skype or any Voice Over IP(VOIP) software. VOIP is the way to go, it uses very little bandwidth and it’s cheaper too. With Skype for instance you could even have your own phone number and people will call you just like you had a normal land line. I know for a fact this kind of setup is possible with Apple iPhone, but being opposed to Apple products as much as I am I would stay away from the iPhone.
Apart from this subject I need to start buying books for the summer semester. Of course I could just go to the campus bookstore and buy them there, but why do that when I could go online and buy those very same textbooks for cheaper used. My goal is to spend under $200 total on all the books for the summer, and hopefully no more than $300 for those required for the fall.
Oh and tomorrow there are going to process my Selective Service appeal at SLCC so I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hope for some financial aid.
